Fic Meme!
ffff I am once again writing more retarded Firefly/Star Trek crossovery stuff. This one's gonna be long though, so no posting until I finish the story.

But! I still feel like writing ... stuff. It is weird for me to feel in a truly fanficcy mood. Most of the time my creative energy gets eaten up by RPGs, but sometimes I get bursts of writing energy too. ... usually prompted by kink memes, actually. My last big one was for Persona 4. I should probably actually post/link to those fics here someday. But I kind of like being anonymous in that fandom. Plus I didn't finish my super-big project. OOPS.

Sooo shortfic meme! Give me a prompt (fandom + characters/focus + something else (a line, an image, an AU idea, anything) and I will write you a brief fic! As long as I know the fandom, I'm willing to give it a try. So that means ... basically anything I've RPed for a significant length of time, or fandoms I have fic involvements with. Requesting something from my original stuff is fab too, but I ... seriously doubt that would happen? anyway.

Applicable fandoms:
+ CFUD (yes it's a fandom, shut up)
+ Bleach
+ CLAMP (just about anything, especially TRC/Holic)
+ Firefly
+ Persona 3/4
+ Star Wars EU (mostly the Solo kids)
+ Star Trek XI
+ Kingdom Hearts (minus new spoilers)
+ Eyeshield 21
+ Phoenix Wright
+ Mark of the Succubus
+ Percy Jackson (books 1-3 only; I will kick you in the face if you spoil me)
+ Batman Beyond
+ Mushishi
+ Runaways
+ FMA (I am way, way behind on the manga though)
+ Anything else you think I know because ffff I am forgetting stuff.

QUALITY IS NOT GUARANTEED fics will probably be written in like ten minutes void where prohibited.

As soon as Sakura returns from her meeting with Syaoran, all three of the girls know something is up. (That is, Umi and Fuu certainly do. Hikaru is entirely convinced that Sakura has found some sort of strange and exotic Hong Kong flower until the others tell her in no uncertain terms that Syaoran does not have petals.) The resulting conversation is two-parts embarrassing, one part uplifting -- but either way her face is terribly warm and her head is terribly fizzy by the end of it.

During the walk back to their hotel, Hikaru hangs back a little, matching Sakura's slower pace. "Hey, Sakura-chan..."

"Mmm?"

"How did it feel?" The other girl's expression is strangely troubled. It looks out of place on someone as warm and cheerful as her.

Even so, Sakura can't suppress a flush. She holds her hands together in front of her chest, to keep the warmth of his hands trapped within hers. "It's ... i-it's really warm," she says, haltingly. "I didn't want to let go of him."

Hikaru nods in a knowledgeable way. "I thought so. Though..."

Sakura pauses. When she looks over, Hikaru doesn't seem to be blushing -- just thoughtful, and nodding, as if they were discussing kendo moves or the weather. Worried, perhaps. "Hikaru-chan?"

"Yes? -- huh, were you worried?" The other girl flutters her hands. "I just... w-well, do you think I could use both hands? One for each person?"

Sakura remembers. The memories are deep, and difficult to recall properly, like trying to touch something through a thin pane of glass. But she can still see them. Fay, kissing her hand. Kurogane, trying not to worry. And Syaoran -- both Syaorans -- Watanuki too -- taking her hand in their own. "Of course," she says, reaching out for her friend's shoulder. "I think they'd like that very much."

Hikaru beams with relief.

"You're grounded."

"What."

"Grounded!"

"You can't fuckin'--"

Fay has to hold Kurogane back. Otherwise he's going to end up knocking over all the furniture in Ikki's apartment, again. "Kuro-pii, Suki-kun has a point," he says, half laughing and half soothing. "Kuro-wanko can't just walk around the city if he's going to pick fights~"

"I ain't pickin' nothin'!" The ninja huffs, but allows his wife to restrain him. "Those monsters attacked me."

"They're motorcycles, Kurodaddy."

"Whatever they're called."

"Now now." Fay is all smiles. "Kuro-wan won't have to stay here alone! I'll help keep him occupied."

Ikki's jaw drops. "Like hell you are!"

"Hmmm~?"

"Fine, you're ungrounded! But don't cut apart any more fucking motorcycles!"

Kurogane grumbles. But one way or another he learns to keep his sword to himself.

FIVE SUPER AWESOME SUPERNATURAL THINGS DEVIN WILL EXPOSE TO THE WORLD (and one he won't)
[info]zinthos
2009-06-16 12:41 pm UTC (link)
(1)

"You wanna know what I think?"

"Not particularly."

"I think," says Devin, posting another picture to the wall of his room, "that she's the missing link."

"Mmm." Junael turns the page of the book he's reading. It's a fascinating treatise on the history of demonic botany; he's reading an account of a particular kind of water-proof reed suitable for the creation of baskets.

Notebook in hand, Devin settles onto their bed with a woomph. "I mean, it makes sense," he says, pointing to an entirely insensible scribble in the middle of the page. "Loch Ness, giant squids, tentacle porn? All came from Marcy."

"And what are you going to do with this information, exactly?"

A long pause. Junael actually has to look up; Devin has gone completely silent, his brows furrowed. "Y'know, I didn't think about that," he says. "Other than, y'know. Telling absolutely everyone."

Junael sighs. "Of course. What else would you do."

Devin's grin is bright. "Write a book?"

"I won't read it."

"... dammit!"

(2)

"I'm writing it anyway, you know."

This time, Devin has a set of pictures -- taken with a digital camera and printed out with loving care. The unusual thing is not what's in the pictures, but rather what isn't. Which, to Junael's eyes, appears to be the complete lack of anything interesting. "A book?" he says, peering over Devin's shoulder. "About ... cabins."

Devin shakes his head. "Not about the cabin," he says. "Look!" He indicates a spot just above the cabin, which ... appears to be completely empty. "That's what I'm writing about."

Junael blinks. "You're writing about the empty space above the cabins."

"There's something there." He brings out another set of pictures, which has a young Japanese boy going up a set of stairs on the side of the cabin. ... a image which is actually somewhat strange, seeing as how there isn't actually a second floor. But humans have built stranger things than staircases into nowhere. "See? He goes up..." Devin retrieves another photograph, "... and then he disappears."

"I... see."

"I figure he's a slave or something," Devin says. "To a witch. Or something worse!"

"Of course," murmurs Junael, as he contemplates the human invention known as headache medicine.

(3)

"Ninja school."

"What."

"-- well, it's a secret!"

"Is it."

"They only communicate in ellipses, so it's really hard to get anything coherent out of them--"

"..."

"Like that!"

"..."

(4)

When Devin brings home the gaggle of fire-breathing vampire ducklings, Junael has had enough. It does not help that he feels a strange, irrational sort of hatred towards anything feathery in Devin's life that isn't him. (It isn't jealousy. Imps do not feel something as petty and unnecessary as jealousy.) "What are those," he says, not even bothering to make this a question any more.

"Shhh." Devin holds up one finger. "I'm interviewing them."

"...how?"

"Weeelll." In the next moment, Devin turns; he is using his very best puppy-dog look. Naturally, it does not work on imps, no matter how much Junael wants to look. "I need a native speaker..."

"No, Devin."

(5)

"Have you ever considered," Junael says, some months later, when Devin is hunched over at his desk and humming to himself over his latest discovery, "that perhaps these things may not want to be exposed?"

Devin stops humming. "Hmm?"

Junael sighs. "They may have a situation similar to Erebus," he says. "Where any knowledge of their world would be quite dangerous, much less public information..."

That seems to get Devin's attention. He thinks for a long moment, tapping his pencil against his chin. "So ... I should cut out the section on Erebus, huh?"

Junael stiffens; it's all he can do to fight off a mild panic attack. "You wrote one?"

"Of course!"

He cannot believe that Devin has even thought of doing this. ... or well, he can believe it, but he is appalled and angry and worried all the same. They have worked too hard to allow their lives to unravel merely because one uppity human has decided to write a book about this. "I sincerely hope you reconsider," he says, his tone cold and flat.

That gets Devin's attention. Guilt flashes in the human's face, and for a split second, Junael almost considers apologizing. "Hey," Devin starts, reaching out with one hand. "I didn't mean--"

Junael flinches away. "Enough," he says. His body shifts; his skin ripples and blackens as he relaxes into his crow form. As he swoops out of the cabin, keen on finding other lodging for the night, he does not notice the hurt look on Devin's face, nor the way he stares at the book afterwards, long after Junael has taken his leave.

(1)

Junael manages to avoid him for an entire week. A few times, Devin manages to approach, even get within touching distance; each time, however, Junael fixes him with a glare that would cause even the hottest parts of Erebus to freeze over.

Still. The human is persistent. And finally, seven days after their initial fight, Devin manages to corner him. "Hey, Junael," he says, and the use of Junael's full name is enough to make the imp pause. "I wanna give you something."

Junael eyes Devin coldly. "Oh? Is it another headache, perhaps?"

The human grins. It's a little softer than usual, for reasons that Junael can't even begin to fathom. Remorse, perhaps? From Devin? ... unlikely. "Nah," he says. "Well, unless you really want one."

Silence.

Devin gives him another soft grin. And then he holds out a small, neatly wrapped package. It's not particularly heavy, but it is firm; Junael wonders for a moment if this is one of those "movies" that Devin speaks so highly of. While Junael peers at the thing, Devin sticks his hands in his pockets and looks a bit sheepish. "I kinda rushed it," he says. "Wanted to finish it, you know?"

Junael unfolds the paper carefully, almost suspiciously. Devin's gift is a book -- hand-bound, a little sloppy, but firmly done; the pages are mostly handwritten as well, with the occasional caption or picture done on computer paper. There is a section on Marcy. And the Secret Camp Ninja School. And fire breathing ducklings. And --

The level of detail is astounding, both in the descriptions themselves and the sheer amount of effort that must have gone into writing everything out, pasting in the pictures by hand, and even detailing tiny doodles in the margins of the text. It is not something that can be reproduced easily. And when Junael turns to the Erebus section ... he finds that it is a narrative of the group's time together, coupled with a few rather tattered-looking pictures of Maeve and Aiden, as taken just before their road-trip.

Devin is standing there expectantly, Junael realizes with a jolt. He has lost the better part of five minutes just by skimming through it. "This is ... your book?" he says at last.

Devin nods. "Yeah. Just the one. I'm too impatient to make any more."

"Then -- when you said you were making a book--"

That soft smile is back. And before Junael can finish his sentence, Devin reaches out and draws the imp into a hug. Junael can feel his face flushing. It is stupidly warm, being in this sort of embrace Warm and embarrassing and ... comfortable, in it own, strange sort of way.

Devin tightens his grip. "Jeez," he says, leaning his head down against Junael's shoulder. "Who did you think I was making it for?"

Junael does not answer. It is dizzying, having this much blood rush to one's face like this. Instead, he allows himself to lean (slightly!) and turn his head away from Devin's. "I ... see," he says. "Mmm. I suppose that would be all right."

Junael can feel Devin's grin against the top of his head. "Just wait til I write the sequel."

"... sequel?"

Devin pulls back. "Of course!" he says brightly. "It's all about how you and me--" The description that follows is nothing short of embarrassing.

And just like that, everything is back to normal.

Fatherhood
[info]ghostduster
2009-06-17 03:06 am UTC (link)
If they had been anyone else, there might have been a scandal. An apparently single mother, taking care of a baby with her two (male) friends? How terrible. But the mother's parents didn't seem to mind; the father was the young proprieter of a local shrine, and the other one ... well, most people hadn't even heard of him before he'd opened his cooking school. (Some people still denied the fact that the school was even there, half the time.)

So really, the only signifcant objections to the whole arrangement begin and end at the hospital. The child is healthy, but there is still one complication: only family (and thus only the father, singular) are allowed in Himawari's hospital room.

"You should go," says Watanuki. He sits in a chair just outside Himawari's room, hands folded and resting lightly in his lap. He wears a dark violet apron, which has the name of his cooking school patterned along its bottom edge: Hitsuzen. The call came right in the middle of one of his cooking lessons. "I mean, by definition--"

Doumeki looks at him.

"B-by definition!" says Watanuki, scowling. Just a little. "If we can't both go in, then at least one of us can."

"You're the father too."

"I know, I know." He runs a hand through his hair. This isn't the first time they've had this conversation. This isn't even the first time they've had this conversation in regards to fatherhood; the issue has been a constant worry of Watanuki's ever since the child's conception, when they decided that Doumeki and Himawari would be the best combination, if only for safety's sake.

This the part where Doumeki is supposed to shrug. Supposed to put his hand on Watanuki's shoulder, rather than attempt something as inefficient as speaking, and keep it there until the other man has stopped trembling.

Doumeki gets as far as the shrug when the door to Himawari's room suddenly opens, revealing one of the doctors. No, not just a doctor -- the hospital director, in fact, if the pin on his coat is any indication. "Excuse me," he says. His face is as severe as his tone, but Watanuki feels as though he's seen the man before. Perhaps it's just the white hair and the glasses. "You are the fathers?"

"Ah--" Watanuki glances at Doumeki, then stumbles to his feet. "Y-yes. I am. We are."

The director gestures vaguely to the door. "Go on."

"Thank you, Dr.--?"

But the director is already walking past them, one hand reaching for the pack of cigarettes in his pocket. Farther down the hallway, another person waits; Watanuki blinks as he recognizes one of the medicine store clerks. Dark hair, sarcastic smile.

"Kimihiro."

"--I'm coming!"

Himawari's hospital room is bright. The windows are open, admitting a wide swath of afternoon sunlight, and a vase filled with sunflowers sits next to her bed. Himawari herself is flushed but deeply content, holding a tiny bundle to her chest. When she sees them, her whole face lights up. "She's healthy," she says, and Watanuki can see the relief behind her joy. "We can take her home in a few days."

They arrange themselves on either side of her bed. Watanuki half-sits, half-lies down on the bed next to her, helping her hold the baby; Doumeki stands and watches over them. "She's beautiful," he whispers. He offers the child his finger and she graps it, making a sleepy, self-satisfied sound.

Doumeki nods slowly.

"Mmm." And then Himawari turns to Watanuki, all innocence and sparkles. "What do you want to call her?"

"Eh? M-me?" He looks from Himwari to Doumeki, then back again. Even Doumeki seems to be smiling a little, that bastard. "I -- I thought we were naming her together...?"

"We are." Doumeki leans down a little, putting a hand on Himawari's shoulder.

"Ah ... well ... " Watanuki's mind is a blank. His first instinct is to name the child Sakura, but -- well, that's a little complicated. So he thinks and he thinks, but only one name is coming to mind. "Yuuko," he says, at last. "For now. Until we pick out something better."

Himawari's smile deepens. "Yuuko," she says. "All right."

If they had been anyone else, it probably would not have worked. Not the name, not the setup, not anything. But they are themselves, in their own unusual little corner of existence. And for that, Watanuki cannot be anything but extremely grateful.
